چکیده

This letter introduces the "mode determination" problem relative to a bimodal image corrupted by noise, i.e., the problem of estimating the mean intensity level of each of the two homogoneous regions constituting a bimodal image. The mode determination problem can be seen as a generalization of the threshold determination problem. This generalization is introduced to cope with the low performances of thresholding techniques when dealing with highly noisy images. A mode determination method is proposed, based on the comparison of the histogram of different (averaging) convolutions of the given image. Experimental results are presented showing the performance of the proposed method.

A New Desired Histogram Method for Contrast Enhancement of SAR Images

In this paper a new desired histogram method is proposed to enhance the contrast of bimodal SAR images using histogram specification with Gamma distribution. The method is aimed to estimate the statistical parameters of the original histogram as the means and prior probabilities of the two modes using the Maximum Likelihood Gamma Distribution technique (ML). Next, we separate the two modes by s...

Image Segmentation Using Thresholding and Genetic Algorithm

In this paper the problem of image segmentation is addressed using the notion of thresholding. A new approach based on Genetic Algorithm (GA) is proposed for selection of threshold from the histogram of images. Specifically GA based crowding algorithm is proposed for determination of the peaks and valleys of the histogram. Experimental results are provided for histogram with bimodal feature, ho...

Detection of Calibration Pattern using Concentric Circles and Bimodal Distribution of Intensity Histogram

A calibration pattern detection method is proposed wherein a bimodal distribution is approximated for the intensity histogram of the calibration pattern. Because the histogram of the calibration pattern, such as black and white squares, is assumed to be bimodal, pattern detection is employed to determine the best threshold separating the two modes of the histogram. As most real images may inclu...

Color scene transform between images using Rosenfeld-Kak histogram matching method

In digital color imaging, it is of interest to transform the color scene of an image to the other. Some attempts have been done in this case using, for example, lαβ color space, principal component analysis and recently histogram rescaling method. In this research, a novel method is proposed based on the Resenfeld and Kak histogram matching algorithm. It is suggested that to transform the color...
